I have friends who only go for top of the range brands when it comes to makeup. They wouldn’t dare taint their skin with anything less than a Chanel or Mac foundation. And I do not deny those high-end companies reputation for quality. There is certainly something to it, and they do sell great makeup products.
But those friends, together with the higher percentage of women out there, clearly are not aware of one of the best kept secrets of the makeup industry, only known to the experts in the field.
This is the secret that will save you money and frustration. This is the secret that will transform the ‘exclusive makeup users’ into ‘inclusive makeup users’ who will suddenly be open to trying out other less exclusive brands of makeup – brands like Maybelline.
If you’re one of those people who only use high-end makeup, you might find yourself drifting over to the drugstore to try out different brands after you read this. Affordable makeup brands that are here to serve everybody – even those who won’t shell out $40 on a single lipstick or lipsticks. Brands that are in sync with the latest fashion crazes, but are also trendsetters. This is because they appeal to the pop culture, to the largest group of every day makeup users.
The Secret To The Perfect Makeover
When I first stepped into the world of makeup artistry, I thought I knew a whole lot about makeup. I decided to study makeup application more to reaffirm the knowledge and skill I already had, rather than than a motivation to work hard and learn more.
I quickly realized that I had little inkling of the trade.
Thanks to a highly talented beauty therapist and experienced instructor, I ended up learning a lot. There’s one thing which stays stuck at the forefront of my mind, however. This might sound weird, but here goes:
Makeup is not about the actual makeup. It is about the tools and application.
Makeup is an art. Your face is an empty canvas. To paint, you need a solid palette with good colors and textures, true. But more importantly, you need good brushes, knowledge and skill.
Makeup is all about application. If you have the right tools and are aware of the correct methods of application, almost every brand of makeup could turn you into a supermodel.
The truth – Maybelline is not the only quality makeup brand out there. But there is something unique about Maybelline that all the younger brands of makeup just cannot compete with. There is nothing like a tried and true company that has never let us down in all the years it’s been around.
It can be relied on to be a step ahead of the game when it comes to keeping up with the fashion trends. The celebrity-endorsed company is constantly launching new products. This enables its loyal and satisfied customers to achieve the season’s perfect look. And I don’t have to tell you that it’s super affordable, even for those on a tight budget.
History & Background Of Maybelline
In 1915, 19-year-old Thomas Lyle Williams created the very first Maybelline product. It was an eye beautifier which he sold locally, calling it Lash-Brow-Ine.
He then renamed the product Maybelline, after his older sister, Mabel, who was his original inspiration for the product. The idea was borne after Williams watched Mabel applying a combination of Vaseline and coal dust to her eyelashes to give them a fuller look.
The Maybelline Company went on to widen their range of eye cosmetics in the following years, until 1967 when Williams sold the company to Plough, Inc in Memphis, Tennessee. The Maybelline Company was sold again in 1990 to Wassertein Perella & Co. It’s currently based in New York. In 1996 the L’Oreal makeup brand acquired Maybelline, giving them access to a wider range of products.
Maybelline Products Overview
The company has a range of more than 200 makeup products which it sells in over 129 countries worldwide. Maybelline uses the slogan “(Maybe she’s born with it) Maybe it’s Maybelline” to advertise its products.
Maybelline is at the forefront as creators of cutting-edge makeup products. Usually, I can find everything I need in the Maybelline brand. On the rare occasion when I don’t find just the product that I’m searching for, I turn to L’Oreal, Maybelline’s mother brand.
Maybelline Fit Me Concealer Review
If I knew I was going to be stranded on an island and I was given a choice of only three makeup products that I could take with me, this Maybelline concealer would definitely be on the list.
When I had my makeup done for a recent family wedding, the makeup artist used many high-end products. But the product she raved about was Maybelline’s Fit Me Concealer. And if you’ve ever tried it, you’ll know why.
Unless you are blessed with perfectly clear and smooth skin, without a single spot or blemish in sight, and no dark circles under your eyes, the Maybelline Fit Me concealer is a must have for you. It will work magic on your skin. It will smooth out lines and wrinkles, and cover up blemishes or spots while you wait for them to disappear.
The Fit Me liquid concealer comes in 12 different shades. You can apply it before or after putting on foundation.
I find that if I put the concealer on first, it can smudge when I apply the foundation to my skin. Applying the concealer over the foundation ensures proper coverage of whatever it is you are trying to conceal. Still, it’s just a preference. Feel free to apply it either way.

Maybelline Fit Me Foundation Review
Society finally realized that makeup is meant to enhance your natural looks, rather than to conceal your appearance. When it comes to makeup you can throw the notion of “the more the merrier” out the window.
The ‘Natural Look’ is the in thing today, and the Maybelline Fit Me foundations are designed to create just that look.
Fit Me Foundation is my personal favorite. It seamlessly blends micro powders with a lightweight liquid to smooth out pores and create a matte finish. The Fit Me line contains a variety of foundations suited to all skin types and shades.
The foundation for normal to dry skin comes in 16 different shades, and the foundation for normal to oily skin contains 24 colors to choose from! In addition to its liquid foundations, Maybelline also sells a Fit Me oil-free stick foundation suited to combination skin There are also powder foundations that are ideal for normal to dry and normal to oily skin types.
If you’d like a fuller coverage, you can have fun applying the Fit Me liquid foundation and then the powder over it for a smooth, silky look.
I’m a quick fix girl. For me, the liquid is enough. It only takes a minute or two to apply it with a foundation brush and bingo – you’ve got flawless skin with a healthy glow!
Maybelline Superstay Better Skin Foundation Review
If you’re tired of reaching the end of the day with only half of the makeup you applied in the morning left on your face, the Maybelline Superstay Better Skin Foundation is the perfect solution for you. The Superstay Skin Foundation is an all-day makeup that can be used on all skin types. It gives your skin a smooth and silky look with a healthy glow.
There are 16 shades to choose from in the Superstay. If you can’t seem to find the perfect shade for you, you can mix colors to create just the right shade you need to match your skin.
The Superstay is the foundation I turn to if I have a wedding to go to or am simply in the mood for an extra dose of coverage. For example, on a dismal winter’s day, when there’s zero hope of me getting some natural color from the sun. In the past, when I was lazy about removing foundation at the end of the day, I would even wake up with a bit of color still visible after a full night’s sleep.
Watch out if your skin tends to dry out, though. Like all long-lasting products, the Superstay foundation can dry out your skin if you’re already prone to it.
Maybelline The Nudes Palette Review
The Maybelline Company truly deserves credit for creating one of the most raved-about products in the makeup industry. The Maybelline Nudes Palette consists of 12 natural looking shades, containing both matte tones and colors with a shimmer. The eye shadow’s texture is soft and blendable, giving you room to play around with it and mix colors to create your own desired look.
Here’s a simple trick to make your eyes look bigger: apply a lighter tone to the inner edge of your eyelid, gradually going darker as you continue outwards.
I love the colors of this palette, especially when mixed to make my own combination. It’s perfect for everyday, as the colors are so natural. You can achieve the perfect ‘no-makeup’ look with it.
I also love The Blushed Nudes palette. In saying that, I will say that many of the shades are not particularly pigmented. I find the best way to get the most pigment out of this palette is by applying it with my fingers. Oh, and definitely use a primer, or you’ll find it hard to apply and with very little color showing up.
Maybelline’s Nude palette sells for less than $10, whilst Urban Decay’s Naked palette, for example, will set you back $54. While I can’t honestly say that they’re of equal quality, the Maybelline palette is a good buy for someone looking to save, who still wants a nice nude eye shadow palette for everyday. For its cheap price in comparison to high-end makeup, Maybelline’s Nude palette makes for a perfect drug store purchase.
Maybelline BB Cream Review
I am still waiting to try the BB Cream. I just can’t yet bring myself to kiss goodbye to the Maybelline Fit Me foundation in favor of this. Even for a day! But I’ve been told by other reviewers that I am missing out on something good.
The Maybelline Company sells 12 different kinds of BB Creams, from illuminating to matte to sheer to anti-acne, plus a whole lot more to choose from. Maybelline’s lightweight BB cream blends seamlessly to provide a full but natural-looking coverage. No more oily products or heavy foundations that make your skin perspire. With the Maybelline BB Cream you can achieve flawless skin that will radiate a healthy glow.
Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer Review
The Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer serves to fluently cover fine lines or dark circles under your eyes and reduce any puffiness. The concealer’s super-concentrated formula works like a dream to give you a fresh look in the morning.
Gone are the days of walking around with visible dark circles dragging down your eyes. You can now spend less than a minute covering any dark circles to attain an instant face lift. The concealer comes in 12 different shades and is packaged in a stick to make it really easy to apply.
Maybelline Dream Wonder Foundation Review
This revolutionary product is so light, you won’t feel like you are wearing makeup at all. The Dream Wonder Foundation melts into your face to produce even, natural, and healthy-looking skin. Like the other Maybelline foundations, this too comes in enough colors for you to find the perfect match for your skin.
Maybelline Color Tattoo Review
If you’re a fan of the intense, ‘glittery eye look’, the Maybelline ColorTattoo is just for you. The Color Tattoo comes in three gorgeous metallic shades – the most beautiful pearl pink I have ever seen, a deep silver and a glittery bronze. The eye shadow’s cream gel consistency makes it fun and easy to apply. This Maybelline product is Ophthalmologist, Dermatologist and Allergy tested, and suitable for sensitive eyes.
For all the ‘natural makeup’ girls out there, don’t be shy to ink your eyelids with this stunning colour tattoo! This charming eye shadow will add an exquisite dimension to your natural, every day look, without making you appear like you have gone overboard with your makeup. The color lasts 24 hours, making it a perfect choice for a special occasion. You can be rest assured that you will stay glittery well through the evening.
Is Maybelline Cruelty Free?
Maybelline only tests its products on animals when it is mandatory by law. Because the company sells its products to the Chinese Market, Maybelline follows Chinese law which requires foreign products to be tested on animals. Therefore, it is not considered a cruelty-free company.
Conclusion
If you aren’t yet hooked on Maybelline, the next time you visit your local drugstore or nearby department store, pick up a Maybelline product, or two – they aren’t expensive. You don’t have to be a professional to achieve stunning results with your makeup application. And you don’t need the designer makeup brands either.
The internet is replete with makeup tutorials, giving you the opportunity to learn the tricks of the trade. Once you have learnt the key rules of makeup application, you will begin to see the makeup doing magic to your face. There is plenty of room to play around with to achieve your own desired look. Makeup application techniques are not confined to a single set of rules.
Trust me, you’ll bless Maybelline after you see the stunning transformation its makeup does to your face with the right makeup tools and knowledge of application.
