Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Color Review
‘Lightweight, High Definition Velvety Matte Color’. That’s how this line of lipsticks from Revlon is described. Honestly, what more could you want in a lipstick? It’s bold. Bright. Feels like nothing on your lips. And it’s matte, which fits into many scenarios and has really exploded in the last decade.
Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Colors Overview
There are two variants of the Ultra HD Matte Lip Colors – regular matte finish, and metallic matte finish for those of you who are a little braver. The regular matte finish comes in mostly lighter/nude tones, with a couple of darker shades as well. There are sixteen colors altogether. The metallic matte finish has a few more daring colors, like purple or indigo. There are eight metallic matte shades.
Revlon is a drugstore brand, and it always was. Sometimes, those brands can be hit and miss. This company has managed to solidify its place at the top, and it remains popular and affordable. I feel strongly about lipstick as a tool. The right lipstick can make a significant difference in your appearance, and part of what I love about it is it’s potential subtlety.
This series was launched in the spring of 2016. Revlon has been around since 1932, and products like lipstick have been the company’s bread-and-butter.
If you’re a fan of Revlon lipstick in general, you’ll love the Ultra HD Matte line. Revlon’s lippies are very pigmented, and this line is no exception! The feel of the lipstick is pretty soft and creamy, and it isn’t long-lasting, which is great if you suffer from dry or chapped lips. Still, it does have decent lasting power as long as you don’t eat or drink, after which you will need to reapply. If your lips are super-dry, it’s probably a good idea to moisturize them first, before applying your lipstick.
As far as the matte finish is concerned, I’m a little skeptical about how much this product lives up to its claims. While it definitely isn’t glittery, it takes a while until you really see that full-on ‘matte’ finish. You’re more likely to describe the immediate result as a satin finish rather than matte. Still it applies easily, and for the price point it’s hard to complain!
Another plus to this lipstick not being long-lasting is that you can keep reapplying without it going crusty and crumbling everywhere. So if you need a drink, don’t worry about your lip color coming off – simply swipe on another coat when you’ve finished drinking, and you’re good to go.
The scent of this lipstick is a sweet vanilla smell. If you love vanilla, then you’ll love this line! Some people might find the smell a little too strong though, and it could take some getting used to.
Lighter And Darker Colors
What’s great about this line is the fact that most of the colors are suitable for every day – there are a lot of really nice nudes or pinks to choose from, perfect for the office or a meeting. I’m personally quite partial to the intense-eyes-nude-lips look, which makes these lipsticks perfect for an evening out as well.
The colors are not all light – as I mentioned before, the metallic matte line has bolder colors. If you like being out there, or feel like making a statement with your lip color, Revlon has some fine lipsticks to offer! Plus, you don’t have to worry about spending on something that you aren’t likely to wear often. At less than $10 a tube, Revlon’s Ultra HD Matte lipsticks are really not the big expense. There are also brown shades available if you like dark lipsticks but not in too daring a color.
In general, Revlon nails their packaging, and the Ultra HD Matte line is no exception. The tube is clear and classy, with a silver lid and clear, simple print. Definitely a thumbs-up in that department! The one thing to watch out for would be the transfer – it will transfer onto anything your lips touch, even after a long time. But even taking that into consideration, I’d still say that this lipstick line is great value for money, and works well for both day and night-time.
If you’re looking for budget makeup that works decently and is available in a fair amount of colors and shades, Revlon is known to be a favorite. While their products may not live up to all their claims fully, you’re getting a pretty good product for the price. If this was a high-end lipstick line that cost $35 a tube, it would really bother me that it isn’t as matte as it claims, and that the scent can be a little overpowering. But considering you can buy these lipsticks for so little (especially on sale), I’d say it’s pretty fair.
I stand by what I said before: lipstick can seriously transform your look. Sometimes, all it takes is the right color. The lipsticks apply really easily and smoothly, and the shades are beautiful. If you’re looking for a new everyday lipstick, give the Revlon Ultra HD Matte line a try, and wait for the compliments to follow!
