In general, we often add this nut to a variety of dishes. Think salads, stir fry, breakfast cereals, and even cakes. Alternatively, you can eat them alone as a snack. I actually like to carry a bag of almonds with me when I’m traveling. They are a healthy snack and keep me satisfied for a long time. Sometimes I prefer to eat them plain. Bitter almonds, aside from tasting, well, bitter, can also be lethal. Yes, you read that correctly – lethal.

They contain roughly 42 times more cyanide (the stuff Bond villains use) than sweet almonds. Bitter almonds were never used for culinary purposes. That’s except for the bitter almonds from apricots (a different genus) in Italian cuisine for amaretti (almond macaroons). But these are not lethal. Bitter almonds do contain 50% more oil than sweet almonds. Yet that’s only if you’re looking to do some dastardly deeds with the finished product.

Almond oil as you and I know it (of the ‘sweet’ variety), is completely safe for consumption. It is incredibly good for your body, inside and out. It contains 26% of the recommended daily 15 mg (22.5 IU) dosage of vitamin E. This, in controlled doses, is good for your cardiovascular system and acts as a strong antioxidant.

Almond oil also has a high monounsaturated oleic acid content (32%), which is essentially rich in omega 9. This fatty acid is good for heart health, balanced cholesterol levels, fortifying hair, and strengthening your immune system.
