Using face masks is one of the easiest (and often inexpensive) ways of rejuvenating your facial skin cells, and getting back to that smoothness and younger-looking complexion. As part of our DIY series here at Maple Holistics, we’re pleased to present this feature explaining how to make one of the most useful face masks you’ll ever want – featuring amazing argan oil!

Face Masks Explained

Many times, face masks are made from natural ingredients and they are meant to cleanse, nourish, and hydrate the skin. Our face is one of those areas which is very often exposed to the elements and is, therefore, more sensitive.

Our face is an inseparable part of us, and we use it pretty much all day, every day. We eat with it, breathe with it, express ourselves with it with words and emotions. Some traditions say the face has the potential to shine like a beacon. The face is one of the first things you notice about a person, obviously, and it can say a lot about you.

We all want to have younger-looking skin. Even if we can afford to sort of neglect the rest of the body, the face is one area which is usually looked after and taken care of – more so than other areas of the skin. Remember, the skin is our largest organ. It always pays to look after it, whether it is the facial skin or the skin found anywhere else on the body.

What Is Argan Oil?

Argan oil is the oil derived from the fruit of the Argan tree, which is a native to certain regions of Morocco and Algeria. Some time ago, it was put on the UN’s list of protected trees due to its immense importance and significance. Many times, the oil is derived from the tree’s kernels by hand, which is also part of what makes it so valuable.

The oil of argan is used in countless products, because of its many health benefits. The natives call the argan tree the Tree of Life because it is that important to them.

Health Benefits Of Argan Oil Explained

Argan can help bring your body’s pH levels to a balance. Many times, different skin conditions – whether on the face or elsewhere – are the result of some kind of imbalance. This is why argan is present in so many products – it can really help you out. It is one of the most popular essential oils around, and its kernels are full of vitamin E and different fatty acids, both of which are known for their positive effect on the skin.

Argan is still being studied by researchers, and results are still inconclusive, but so far the argan and its oil have been linked to cancer prevention, lowering bad cholesterol, and prevention or reversal of other diseases and conditions. This is not to say this is a miracle cure. No no. But it does have some serious benefits – especially when applied topically.

Argan Oil Face Mask Benefits For Skin & Acne

As for skin and acne, argan has plenty of potential. Like other natural ingredients – such as avocado, which is also used in many face mask recipes – it has this way of helping the skin from the inside out, unclogging the pores and helping the cells regenerate. For a long time, I thought the oil of argan was mainly a hair treatment.

That is how I came to be aware of it. It really does do great things for your scalp and hair, but the skin and facial skin, in particular, can also greatly benefit from it.

Many times, acne is the result of poor pH balance, clogged pores (dirt and dead skin being the main culprits there), and inflammation. Argan can counter all of those, and bring about a real change to the way that your face looks. It doesn’t happen overnight, but in time it has a very noticeable effect.

DIY Argan Oil Face Mask Recipe

There are many DIY methods for creating a face mask with argan oil. One of the simplest recipes you’ll find is this one:

Take a bowl, add lemon juice (a spoon), avocado (2 spoons), honey (a spoon), and argan oil (a spoon, or, if you’re sensitive, several drops will do). Mix well, add water to get to the proper consistency for you, and voila! You can also experiment further with yogurt, banana, oats, and other yummy and nourishing ingredients.

Leave it on for 10-15 minutes, and rinse off with warm water. You’re done! Doing this once a week can help your face stay younger, smoother, and cleaner than ever before.  A word of caution: don’t overdo it. 15 minutes, once a week, that sounds like it would be okay for most people. Remember that essential oils are a very potent substance, so they should be used with proper care. If you overuse it, it could have a reverse effect.

DIY Argan Oil Face Mask Before & After Results

My face was not in any bad shape or form before I began using this mask. But I did notice a nice amount of healthy rose which allowed my face to positively shine. I certainly felt cleaner, and that goes a long way.

There is no dramatic before or after for me, personally, but there are countless stories and accounts of argan being a real lifesaver for people’s faces. I mean, our face is one of the most unique and expressive physical features we have. Plus, our skin is the largest organ we have, and it serves to protect us and keep us safe. We need to take of it as best we can, and natural ingredients such as argan help us out.

If you are looking for a way to create an effective and useful face mask, argan oil is one of your best bets. Combined with other kinds of ingredients, it can give your face everything it needs and then some! It doesn’t matter if you are suffering from a certain skin condition, or if you are simply seeking a way to get balanced and younger-looking skin.

And speaking of skin conditions, be sure to consult with your physician before beginning any treatment with essential oils, and get the green light. That goes for our DIY Facial Serum and DIY Facial Mist as well.

Argan is a wonderful fruit. It has a nutty, creamy kind of flavor and scent. It is used in so many ways, and a mask of argan’s oil is a wonderful way to bring some of those positive nutty energies and nutrients to your face.
