Jasmine Absolute Oil For Health Explained

Post Image

If you’re a fan of flowers then Jasmine is something that you’re likely to have heard of or have come across at some point in time. I for one am a garden bug and can spend hours over the weekend tending to my plants and vegetables – I find it very therapeutic and a great stress reliever! There’s something about the natural aroma of certain plants, herbs and flowers that liven the senses and transports me away from the daily hustle and bustle.  The natural fragrances fill my nose allowing me to unwind and reset my mind and body, before setting off on the journey of modern day life.

However, I am well aware that gardens are a luxury in most cases and not all of us have enough space to cultivate a proper collection of plants, flowers or mini-allotments.In most cases, we’re often resigned to the space that hasn’t already been filled in our apartments or on the windowsills that may get just enough light in for a small collection of indoor plants.

However, it was actually during my time in the city that I discovered how easy it could be to grow Jasmine and how little space you needed to do so. This is largely due to the fact that it’s a shrub that grows like a vine. So given that you live in a suitable climate (preferably one that’s slightly warm and tropical), you can grow Jasmine on a small balcony space quite easily.

The Jasmine flower is one of the many wonders of creation, besides the heavenly smell it produces, it also provides an array of beautiful whitish pink flowers. The Jasmine flower can be harnessed as a tremendously potent natural remedy and can be used as an alternative to many of the common pharmaceutical medications that we use on a regular basis.

If you’re a naturopath or are simply interested in leading a more holistic and natural lifestyle, then understanding how to utilize the plant, herbs and fungi that occur in nature to your advantage is a vitally important skill to have under your belt – it can make the difference between a clean bill of health or being ill all the time.

Thankfully though, we are here to help you form a clearer picture of which natural products would be better suited to you and your specific health requirements as well as how to utilize them in such a way that you reap the benefits to their fullest. Jasmine absolute oil is one of my personal favourites and once you’re done reading this, I hope that you’ll be convinced to add it your collection of natural products or to your medicine cabinet at home.

What Is Jasmine Absolute Oil?

Jasmine Flower.

Jasmine absolute oil is extracted from the flowers of the Jasmine shrub which only blossom at night – hence the flowers nickname as ‘The Queen of the Night’  or “Night Blooming Jasmine” in India. Because the flowers of the Jasmine plant are so delicate, they cannot withstand the intense heat associated with the steam distillation process and are therefore subjected to extraction via a series of solvent baths made up of a variety of different chemicals.

First, the flowers are extracted at night (as this is when they reach full blossom and therefore are more fragrant) and immediately transported to the extraction facility. However, because the flowers are so delicate, they need to be hand-picked in order to ensure that they don’t bruise or break.

The flowers are then added to a large vat which is filled with a hydrocarbon solvent (such as benzene or toluene) which helps to dissolve the essential oils contained within. This process produces a thick, wax-like resin which can be used on it’s own to produce candles or in the manufacturing of soaps in order to add fragrance and texture to the finished product.

However, in order to attain the oil as we know it for medicinal or therapeutic use, the resin is then subjected to another step – a bath in pure isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. This helps to separate the oils from the wax and once the alcohol evaporates – you’re left with the final product, the essential oil. While this is the only way to produce essential oils from more delicate sources (such as flowers), the truth is that it’s not the best way to do so – but until we develop a new method, it’s the only way for now.

The problem is that small amounts of the alcohol and chemical solvents used in the extraction process tend to remain in the finished product and this means that when we breathe in the oil or apply it to our skin, we are also introducing small amounts of these harmful chemicals to our system which, over time, can have negative effects on our health. So it’s important to be sure that you use the oil in small amounts and always dilute it with a safe and suitable carrier oil before using it in order to avoid any health complications.

Jasmine Absolute Oil For Skin

Jasmine Oil For Skin.

Jasmine oil is an alternative skin treatment to using lotions that can leave a greasy layer on your skin. You want to make sure that whatever you’re using on your skin won’t gather dirt and lead to clogged pores – which is where this enchanting oil comes in to play.

The high antioxidant content in Jasmine oil means that it eliminates free radicals, cause chain reactions that can damage your skin cells. The fact that this oil also contains a low comodegenic rating means that you can apply it directly to the skin without worrying about clogged pores. Jasmine oil is also a great treatment for cracked skin as it penetrates deep into the skin and encourages skin cell turnover to renew skin.

Nevertheless, however, it’s important for me to stress yet again that you should always be sure to dilute Jasmine absolute oil in a suitable carrier oil (such as Almond oil, Jojoba oil, Ylang Ylang oil or Lavender oil) before applying it on your skin, as leftover chemicals from the extraction process can cause your skin to have a negative reaction and if you have a sensitive skin type – then can even lead to tissue damage, so proceed with direction, research and caution.

Jasmine Oil For Menstrual Cramps

Jasmine Oil For Menstrual Cramps.

Jasmine absolute oil can be rubbed on the stomach and just below the stomach area to help relieve the pain associated with menstrual cramps as it has potent natural analgesic qualities which help to quell the pain as well as relaxing the muscles in the uterus and ultimately help in the prevention of the cramps in the first place.

However, the benefits of Jasmine oil go beyond this as it helps to promote the secretion of various hormones that ensure that the uterus is kept in good health and functions properly. By rubbing the oil on the surface of your skin around the ovaries, you help to stimulate the ovaries and therefore shed the endometrium.

Unfortunately, menstrual cramps are something that most women are bound to experience at some point in their lives and thankfully, treating the issue can be done in a natural way. Jasmine absolute oil has been used to treat cramps and spasms for many years and many regard it as a highly effective method of treatment.

Without shedding the endometrium, your ovaries can become atrophied and will not function normally, which could lead to cramps and pain or simply infertility (in extreme cases) – which is something most women would want to avoid.

You can also use Jasmine essential oil to help restrict the flow of estrogen after menopause in order to prevent the formation of tumours in the uterus – but I would recommend using it sparingly if you’re pre-menopausal as it may have a negative effect on your hormone balance.

Jasmine Absolute Oil as an Antiseptic

The oil can also be used to help treat dermatitis and eczema in certain cases as it helps to moisturize and protect the skin from becoming dry or cracked, however, it’s very important that you find a good quality oil if you plan on using it for these ailments as cheaper oils tend to have a higher amount of chemicals which are leftover from the extraction process and can cause sensitive skin to have an allergic or negative reaction (become itchy or inflamed and therefore worsening the quality of your skin).

Even when you do find a high-quality absolute oil, it is still recommended that you dilute it in a suitable carrier oil so that the chemicals are less effective in affecting or damaging your skin – this ultimately makes the oil safer for topical use.

Jasmine essential oil can also be used to help relieve scarring on the skin associated with healing wounds, stretch marks and acne as it has powerful cicatrisant properties which stimulate the growth of new skin tissue and cells and allows the damaged skin to heal itself more effectively, ultimately replacing the old wounded tissue with healthier, new skin tissue. It’s well worthwhile carrying a vial of Jasmine essential oil in your gym bag or keeping one around the house for encase you need a natural disinfectant on short notice – you can keep using it to allow for a faster and better healing process as well.

Jasmine Absolute Oil for Relaxation

Add Jasmine Oil To Your Bath For Relaxation.

This is probably one of my favorite uses for this absolute oil and was what originally inspired me to try it out. I’m big into aromatherapy and holistic healing and studies have shown time and time again that stress can be linked to the formation and development of nearly every disease or health ailment that plagues us these days. It’s one of the main killers in our society today and can actually be treated a lot easier than many realize – but first you have to admit that you’re stressed and this seems to be the hard part for so many of us these days due to the fast-paced, high demand lifestyle many of us live in.

I personally prefer adding a few drops of Jasmine oil to my bath along with Lavender oil and Ylang Ylang oil in order to allow my muscles to relax, my skin to become nourished and to aid in the unlocking of my senses by breathing in the aromatic steam. The scent of Jasmine oil has been linked to the release of dopamine in the brain which is directly responsible for our feelings of happiness and peace of mind and is used as part of a reward system by our brains for when we do positive things for our body – ie going for a run, eating healthy food, laughing and having sex etc.

Jasmine absolute oil has potent natural antiseptic and antimicrobial qualities and can be used to help treat the occurrence of minor wounds, burns, sores, insect bites and even acne marks or pimples. The high antioxidant content of the oil as well the rich variety of helps to prevent the buildup of germs and bacteria that could lead to infection if left untreated, as well as relieving the pain that is common with these kinds of topical issues.

This can help us relax and unwind. Recent studies have also shown that when we get out of a bath, the feeling of cool air on our warm bodies can lead to the release of a chemical known as melatonin which is responsible for regulating our sleeping cycles. If you’re not getting enough sleep, you’re bound to feel more stress or rather, won’t have enough energy to adequately deal with stress when it arises.

By ensuring that we get enough sleep on a regular basis, we actively allow our body to heal itself, balance our hormones and ‘shut-down’ for a while, which is one of the best ways to cope with stress. So the next time you’ve had a long and stressful day and are feeling a bit down in the dumps, run a warm bath and add 5 drops of Jasmine absolute oil, 3-4 drops of Lavender oil and a few drops of either Ylang Ylang oil or Bergamot oil to your bath for one the most relaxing experiences you can have in the comfort of your own home.

Jasmine absolute oil has potent natural antiseptic and antimicrobial qualities and can be used to help treat the occurrence of minor wounds, burns, sores, insect bites and even acne marks or pimples. The high antioxidant content of the oil as well the rich variety of sesquiterpenes helps to prevent the buildup of germs and bacteria that could lead to infection if left untreated, as well as relieving the pain that is common with these kinds of topical issues.

If you don’t have a bath, boil a kettle and pour the water into a sink or a bowl, add the same amount of oils, cover your head and the bowl with a towel and breath in the steam to get the same effects. It’s worked for me every time and it’s a much healthier coping mechanism than taking sedatives or antidepressants etc.

Conclusion

It’s easy to see why so many hail Jasmine absolute oil as a wonder of the natural world and the sheer variety of different issues that the oil produced by this plant can help with-stand as proof that it’s a worthy natural product to invest in.

It’s rare to find something that is both highly effective as a medicinal agent yet also smells as delightful as Jasmine does and ever since I first started using it – I’ve become somewhat addicted in the best sense of the word (if such a thing exists). I diffuse Jasmine oil in my house everyday and simply love the idea of opening the door and being greeted with a healthy waft of the alluring odor.

If there’s an essential oil that you simply must have in your life, I would say that Jasmine oil is definitely the one. I promise that after trying it once, you’ll be buying this stuff in bulk for the rest of your life!
