John Frieda Air Dry Waves Review

Post Image

Waves add volume, bounce, and personality to hair. But the heat tools needed to achieve this can also leave hair dry and damaged. Solution? Waves with no heat! Seriously. Read on to find out, in this John Frieda Air Dry Waves review. It’s one of the more “niche” products within the Frizz Ease series, in my opinion anyway. Waves are such a classic look; when I see a well-executed wavy hairdo, it manages to get me thinking of the beach.

Some people embrace the frizz, and there is nothing wrong with that. Frizzy or untidy hair has its own charm and allure. But there are times when I just want my hair to behave, and to put the kibosh on all the flyaways and frazzled sections. Thermal styling has a lot of potential, and there are ways to do it properly, but overall it’s a more complicated process that carries greater risk.

John Frieda Frizz Ease Line Explained

John Frieda’s Frizz Ease is an entire line devoted just to combat frizz. It includes 21 different frizz-fighting products! Extra Strength 6 Effects + Serum; Original 6 Effects Serum; Beyond Smooth Frizz Immunity Conditioner; Beyond Smooth Frizz Immunity Shampoo; Daily Nourishment Leave-In Conditioner; Beyond Smooth Frizz Immunity Primer; Dream Curls Air Dry Wave Styling Foam; Dream Curls Daily Styling Spray; Flawlessly Straight Conditioner; Flawlessly Straight Shampoo; 10 Day Tamer Treatment; 3 Day Straight Flat Iron Spray; Curl Reviver Mousse; Nourishing Oil Elixir; Secret Weapon Touch-Up Creme; Keraflex Flexible Hold Hairspray; Daily Nourishment Conditioner; Daily Nourishment Shampoo; Clearly Defined Gel; Straight Fixation Styling Creme; Moisture Barrier Firm Hold Hairspray.

The frizz-fighting products are infused with coconut oil, keratin, which has been shown to improve hair health as in a 2018 study, argan oil, and other conditioning agents to smooth frizzy hair. The John Frieda Frizz Ease Line has mixed reviews. Some swear by it while others complain that the anti-frizz products delivered zero results, or worse, made their hair fall out. I imagine the results will depend on your hair type. Try whichever product you are using on some of your hair before applying to your entire head, especially if you’re worried about hair falling out or the product worsening your frizz.

John Frieda Air Dry Waves Review

If you’ve got naturally frizzy hair like me, you’ll probably be able to relate to the wavy, frizzy hair woes. The frustrations of trying to style and tame your hair with a blow dryer only to discover that, alas, the blow dryer is only worsening the frizz. Or regularly subjecting your precious tresses to a scalding straightening iron for lack of another option to tame the frizz. But what happen when you want your curly or wavy hair back?

Enter: John Frieda’s Air-Dry Waves Styling Foam. The Styling Foam is specifically formulated for thick-medium and wavy-curly hair types, but it can be used on all types of hair with all levels of frizz. The product tightens curls, defines waves and controls frizz without heat. You just need to apply 2 to 3 pumps of foam to damp hair, scrunching your hair in areas where you want to define curls or waves. Allow your hair to air dry and you’re good to go!

The product is great if you’re after natural-looking curls or waves. I would recommend it for everyday use. Applying a foam to your hair is a lot better for your hair than subjecting it to heat which can be damaging and drying to hair. Plus, it saves you time, since lathering a styling foam through damp hair takes less time than styling with a heat tool.

John Frieda also sells the Unwind Curls Calming Crème, which is designed to loosen curls. If you prefer loose curls over defined ones follow the steps below:

  1. Wash your hair with John Frieda’s Smooth Start Shampoo and Smooth Start Conditioner.
  2. Massage 2-3 drops of the Nourishing Oil Elixir through your hair.
  3. Apply the Unwind Curls Calming Crème to your hair from roots to tips.
  4. Twist sections of hair with your hands and blow-dry.
  5. Finish with applying a small amount of the Secret Agent Touch-Up Crème to smooth flyaways.

Conclusion

John Frieda introduced his Frizz Ease line of products in the 1980s. The hair serum series is probably the most widely-known among them, and at that time there were no products specifically combating frizz. The ’80s brought us some of the finest movies, music, TV shows, and fashion trends of all time. Conversely, some are rather ridiculous in hindsight – looking at you, baggy neon windbreakers – but that’s probably true to any decade. We all make mistakes, and we’re all the product of our times, to some degree.

Products like the Air Dry Waves foam have a lot of value, and they’re priced accordingly. These may be on the higher end of your ordinary drugstore or supermarket brands, but they are well worth it.  You can make it part of a morning routine, and see just how far it can take you throughout the day. Having the right kind of look when you leave your house in the morning, can sometimes make all the difference.

When Frizz Ease was introduced, Big Hair and 80’s glam were still very much around. There aren’t many products that define curls or waves with no heat, so it’s nice to discover products that style hair while controlling frizzy prone wavy and curly hair. John Frieda’s styling foams are great for traveling or to use when you’re in a hurry. Simply apply the lotion to damp hair and start your day!
