Turmeric For Sore Throat: DIY Cough Drops With Turmeric!

Post Image

Since the dawn of time mankind has been coughing, especially around the colder months.  Nature is full of effective remedies for calming and soothing a cough. Way before the first pain-killing tablets were ever synthesized in a laboratory, people were turning to lavender, ginseng, and cannabis for relief. There are thousands of at home recipes for a large range of things from everyday shampoo, to beauty recipes.  This DIY recipe is to get you relief for that annoying cough, improve your overall health and wellness.

Obviously, there is a place for western medicine and laboratory synthesized drugs, but a cough – be it dry, wet, wheezing, or other – usually has its own “personality.” It should be treated with this in mind. I am not saying don’t go to the doctor, Please do.

All I am saying is: don’t run to the pharmacy when you can turn to your cupboard instead. A variety of natural ingredients exist for treating different types of coughs, but I have found a recipe that I believe would be beneficial for most kinds. Remember that strength and efficiency vary according to condition and sensitivity, so you may need to experiment with the amounts.

Ingredients – Organic, Whenever Possible

  • ½ cup – filtered water (or mineral, if that’s your thing).
  • 1 tea spoon – turmeric powder.
  • 1 tea spoon – black pepper (freshly ground).
  • 2 crushed cloves – garlic.
  • Onion juice or hot paprika extract. Start small with these. Don’t overdo it.
  • Honey and apple cider vinegar are also ingredients you may want to introduce, though these may be better off taken as a standalone syrup, rather than mixed into a dropper.

Recipe

  • Heat the water in a small pot.
  • Add the ingredients gradually and stir until unified.
  • Let it cool.
  • Store in a tightly closed jar, in the fridge, for up to a week.

Remember, this is meant to end up in a dropper. It shouldn’t be too thick as this will make it difficult to come out through the small hole in the dropper.  Add some water if necessary.

About The Ingredients

Turmeric is an Amazing Antioxidant

  • Turmeric is a great antioxidant to aid the body in flushing out toxins and harmful bacteria. It is especially helpful for dry coughs.
  • Black pepper improves the flow of mucus, which is why it would be beneficial for those who are getting over a phlegm-filled cold.
  • Garlic has a powerful aroma that has a way of tapping into the brain’s cough center, not unlike pharmaceutical drugs. It also contains anti-bacterial and antiviral agents which help to mitigate the ongoing cough.
  • The strong fumes from an onion can help stop certain types of coughs dead in their tracks. When you prepare the onion, take the time to inhale a few healthy whiffs of this unique root veggie. Best done like a dog, in short sniffs, rather than a long inhalation.
  • Hot paprika can help to relieve the chest pains which come with a prolonged cough. It can also cause some amount of desensitization, which reduces that annoying “tickle” feeling in your throat.
  • Honey and apple cider vinegar can assist in clearing up congestion. The combination of both of these can be beneficial for a dry or wet cough.

Again, depending on the cough in question, you can adjust the ingredients accordingly.

Conclusion

The herbal drops and syrup are made from these natural ingredients to help the body do what it already does naturally, in order to combat that frustrating cough. This is why they are so soothing and effective. They don’t introduce any elements or processes which the body doesn’t already possess or is unfamiliar with. Nature helping nature. Look no further than your kitchen.
